Rights of Way
It may interest you to know that two of the Parish Councillors (Stephen Hoskins and Karen Parker) are also local Rights of Way (ROW) Volunteers and along with a few others patrol the Parish ROWs to look for any issues.
They also have tools including brush cutters and hedge trimmers funded by Hampshire Countryside Service (HCS) and use these to clear vegetation on ROW. Overhanging vegetation is the responsibility of the landowner as is upkeep of “furniture” such as styles and fences. However HCS liaise with landowners to carry out projects such as replacement of stiles by gates (allowing better access) and our volunteers often assist in these activities.
Most months an article by the volunteers appears in the Parish Magazine and is called “Ambling Around”
Attached are two items of assistance.
- A key as to who/what can use the various types of ROWs with the legend of how they appear on maps and the colours that are used on the various forms of signage.
- A previous “Ambling Around” article that contains useful information on how to report ROW problems, where to find maps of them and other useful links.
