Ashford Hill with Headley

Kingsclere Charities were set up to help and support residents in the parishes of Kingsclere and Ashford Hill with Headley. The currently active constituent charities are:

  • Kingsclere Almshouse – Reverend Thomas Brown Charity
  • The Robert Higham Apprenticing Charity
  • The Educational Foundation of Robert Higham
  • Kingsclere Welfare Charities

The Robert Higham Apprenticing Charity promotes the education and training of young people between the ages of 16 to 25, resident in the parishes of Kingsclere and Ashford Hill with Headley, who are preparing for, or attending sixth forms, colleges, universities or undertaking organized vocational training. Grants are awarded to assist the cost of:

  • Equipment, books, stationery, IT equipment and specialist clothing specifically required for undertaking learning or training in a stated subject.
  • Expenses incurred in travelling to and from home to the place of learning.

Apprentice payments for travel costs and equipment in 2025 were made to 6th form and college/university students amounting to £4,831.16.

The Educational Foundation of Robert Higham provides benefits not normally provided by the local Education Authority to schools in the Parishes of Kingsclere and Ashford Hill with Headley. Recent grants have included help to Kingsclere C of E Primary School with refurbishment of their library.

The Kingsclere Welfare Charity grants aid to persons who are resident in the Parishes of Kingsclere and Ashford Hill with Headley and who are in need of relief who are sick, convalescent or disabled. Such assistance shall be in cases where help has not been available from elsewhere.
